Colton Herta will drive for Hitech in next year’s Formula 2 Championship.

It was revealed in September that Herta would be racing in F2 next year, with the ultimate goal of reaching F1.

The former IndyCar driver announced today that he will be driving for Hitech TGR next season.

The Silverstone – based team are currently second in the F2 standings, with Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic and Williams Junior Luke Browning racing for them.

Some notable drivers that have raced for Hitech’s F2 team include Alpine reserve driver Paul Aron, and current Racing Bulls drivers Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson, who all made their F2 debuts with the team.

Hitech TGR Team Manager Clive Hatton said: “We’re delighted to welcome Colton to the team for the 2026 Formula 2 season. He already brings a level of experience, professionalism, and talent that we’re typically used to nurturing in drivers as they progress through the junior categories.

“This is an exciting step for Colton, but also a challenging one. He’s stepping into a new racing environment that has very different formats, with high expectations, and a clear goal of progressing to F1. But his determination and commitment are impressive and we’re delighted to help maximise his potential during the 2026 season.”

Herta left IndyCar having raced in the series since 2018, when he was tipped to be the next big thing.

Although that promise never translated into championships, his talent was there for all to see. The American took nine wins and 20 podiums with a best championship finish of second in 2024.

The 25-year-old raced for Andretti’s IndyCar team which is owned by TGW Global, the same company that owns the new Cadillac F1 team.

That link allowed him to grab the role of test and reserve driver, an opportunity he’s grabbed with both hands. His decision to race in F2 next year shows his ambition and determination to learn the tracks, tyres and the world of F1, as he aims to become Americas next F1 star.
