The Estonian is set to take part in FP1 with Kick Sauber at the upcoming British and Hungarian Grand Prix on loan from Alpine.

Aron is currently a reserve driver for Alpine after he finished third in last years Formula 2 championship.

The 21-year-old has already driven F1 machinery during private tests with Alpine. But this will be his first time driving on a Grand Prix weekend.

A new rule introduced for this year mandates that every team give up each of their cars at least twice a season so that a rookie drive in FP1. Kick Sauber, with no junior drivers of their own, have reached an agreement with Alpine to let Aron drive the car in Silverstone and Hungary in the place of Nico Hulkenberg.

Alpine also announced that Aron will drive their car in three FP1 sessions later in the year, however the dates are yet to be confirmed.

“I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to have valuable track time in Formula 1, so thanks to BWT Alpine Formula One Team for coming to this arrangement,” Aron said.

“It is no secret that my desire is to one day race full-time in Formula 1 so any chance to be on track in a competitive environment is an important stepping stone.

“While I continue to focus on my development with Alpine, I do look forward to the two sessions with Kick Sauber and giving my maximum effort to them at Silverstone and Budapest.”

Other News

In other news, Alpine are expected to continue with Franco Colapinto after his initial five races with the team came to an end last week.

The Argentinian replaced Jack Doohan just six races into the season, with Alpine saying that he would be in the car for five races before an evaluation ahead of this weekends British Grand Prix.

With no sign of a replacement, it’s assumed that Colapinto will continue to race for the team on a race-by-race contract, as the French outfit desperately try to lift themselves off the bottom of the standings.
