The former F1 driver, along with Ye Yifei and Phil Hanson led the number 83 AF Corse to victory, making it three wins in a row for Ferrari at Le Mans.

Ferrari had looked quick throughout the race, but the number 83 crew still had to battle the two factory cars, as well as the Penske Porsches who seemed to be the only team that could keep up with the prancing horses over the 24 hours.

The pace of the 83 car proved to be too much however, and in the end it was Kubica who brought the car home to win the 24 hours of Le Mans, 14 seconds ahead of the number six Porsche which finished second after starting from the back of the Hypercar grid, having been disqualified from qualifying.

Kubica would’ve went to the Ferrari F1 team if wasn’t for a life-changing accident that put a pause on his motorsport career. But now, 13 years later, the Polish driver has just won the biggest endurance race of the year driving for the Italian team, in what is something of a full-circle moment for him.

“Winning Le Mans is special,” he added later to TNT Sports. “It’s been a demanding week – we made everything possible. We kept our heads down when we had to push, and when not we took care of the tyres.

“I’m happy for myself, my team-mates, AF Corse and Ferrari winning three times in row. A better scenario, we could not have.”

Of the 62 cars that started the event, only 44 would see the checkered flag, which goes to show how tough this race is on both driver and car.

In LMP2 the number 43 Inter Europol driven Nick Yelloly, Tom Dillmann and Jakub Smiechowski took victory, whilst the number 92 Manthey Porsche driven by Ryan Hardwick, Riccardo Pera and Richard Lietz won in LMGT3.
