Redbull junior Tim Tramnitz took victory in todays F3 sprint race at Imola, helping him close the gap to championship leader Rafael Camara.

Race Report

Starting in second, Tramnitz held position on lap one with his teammate Bruno del Pino leading the race until lap 3, when Tramnitz took advantage of the DRS to move past and into first place.

The safety car was deployed a few laps later when Nicola Marinangeli pulled over after one of his wheels fell off the car, forcing him out of the race.

Racing resumed on lap 9 with Tramnitz controlling the pace out in front, whilst the Prema pair of Leon and Ugochukwu battled the two Rodin’s of Sharp and Bilinski for the lower points paying positions.

The other Rodin driver, Callum Voisin, was battling his way through the lower half of the field after a difficult qualifying. His race would be cut short however after an incident with Matías Zagazeta at turn two, with the Dams driver coming off worst and ending up in the gravel, bringing out another safety car.

The Campos of Mari Boya, who was running third at the time, also retired during this period with some sort of mechanical issue that forced him into the pits.

When racing resumed, the two Rodin cars were once again on the attack, with Sharp now up into fourth place and Bilinski putting huge pressure on Ugochukwu in the battle for fifth, which paid off on the penultimate lap as the American went wide at Acqua Minerali, dropping him down to eighth.

Back in front and Tim Tramnitz, having manged the race perfectly, crossed the line to win for the second time in Formula 3, with his teammate Del Pino coming home in second to make it a 1-2 for MP Motorsport, and take his first podium in the series.

Redbull Junior Nikola Tsolov rounded out the podium in third ahead of the two Rodin’s of Sharp and Bilinski, with the Prema’s of Ugochukwu and Leon finishing eighth and ninth respectively, which takes Prema’s points total this season to just five, making them the only team still on single digits.
