Mexican driver Santiago Ramos won the first race of the year during todays sprint race at albert park.
It was also the first time we got to see the new Formula 3 car in a proper race!

Having started on reverse grid pole, Ramos held the lead into the first corner, as Matias Zagazeta, who started second, slipped back into the midfield.
The fighting behind allowed Ramos to build a five second gap to the car in second, which was now Martinius Stenshorne. That gap wouldn’t last long however, as the safety car was deployed on lap three after Rafael Camara and the ART pair of James Wharton and Laurens van Hoepen came together at turn 12.

Racing got back underway on lap nine with Stenshorne, who won the sprint race here last year, all over the back of race leader Ramos.
Fighting between Inthraphuvasak and Zagazeta over P4 allowed the top three to escape down the road, with Ramos still under huge pressure from Stenshorne and Bilinski.
As the laps ticked down, Stenshorne found himself still behind Ramos who was defining for his life. Thankfully for him, he was thrown a lifeline on lap 16 when Bruno Del Pino and Javier Sagrera made contact at turn six, leaving both of them in the gravel.
With just four laps left, the race ended under safety car with Santiago Ramos taking the first win of the year and his first in the championship. Stenshorne finished second ahead of Bilinski who finished P3 on his debut.

Race winner Ramos said: “Really happy with the race result. At the beginning of the race, we were able to create a gap, I thought it was going to be enough to keep me out of problems for the rest of the race, then the Safety Car came.”
“Then Martinius came quite close to me a couple of times, so I was a bit scared. In the end we managed to keep the position, and it was a really, really fun race.”
