American car manufacturer Cadillac will join the F1 grid next year, with Ferrari supplying the engines.

It comes two months after the company reached an agreement in principle with F1 to enter the sport as an 11th team.

Cadillac already have a team in the world endurance championship.

The process of getting another big American team onto the grid has been ongoing for a few years now. It began back in February 2022, when Andretti global submitted a request to enter Formula 1, which was initially accepted by the FIA.

However F1 themselves denied the request, believing that Andretti wouldn’t add any value to the championship.

The team pushed on however, building a new factory at Silverstone and getting General Motors on board.

This new proposal, under the guise of General Motors luxury car brand Cadillac, was accepted in principle by F1 in November, as they had made some key changes to the original proposal. These included Michael Andretti, son of F1 world champion Mario Andretti, not being involved in the team, as their was reportedly tension between him and F1. They also announced that General Motors would supply the engines down the line, giving the team a works status.

President and CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali said: “As we said in November, the commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to Formula 1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.

“I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive engagement over many months and look forward to welcoming the team on the grid from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1.”

FIA president Mohamed Ben Sulayem said: “The FIA Formula One Championship’s expansion to an 11th team in 2026 is a milestone. GM/Cadillac brings fresh energy, aligning with the new FIA 2026 regulations and ushering in an exciting era for the sport.

“The Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s presence in the paddock will inspire future competitors and fans. Their entry strengthens our mission to push motorsport’s boundaries at the highest level.”
