Arvid Lindblad Secures F1 super licence

Redbull’s junior driver Arvid Lindblad won the Formula Regional Oceanic championship this weekend, securing himself the necessary amount of super licence points to make him eligible to race in F1.

The 17-year-old has dominated the series this year, winning the first four feature races which put him in touching distance of the title heading into the final round at Highlands Motorsport park for the 69th running of the New Zealand grand prix.

Winning on Sunday would see him become the first driver in history to win all five feature races in the season. Sadly for him however he could only manage P3, as Australian stock car racer Will Brown won the grand prix.

That was of little concern to Lindblad however, as he had done exactly what Redbull wanted him to do which was win the title and secure the extra 18 super licence points.

That puts him on 43 points making him eligible to race in F1 this year should Redbull need him.

A new rule introduced for this year requires every Formula 1 team to give up each car at least two times, allowing a young driver a chance to drive in FP1, meaning we could Lindblad in for FP1 as many as six times this year for both Redbull and their sister team racing bulls (RB driver Isack Hadjar counts as rookie and so will take up two FP 1 sessions).

Lindblad will be making his Formula 2 debut this year, and with RB driver Yuki Tsunoda out of contract at the end of the season, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that Lindblad will take his seat for the new regulations in 2026.
