Redbull on the Backfoot During Friday Practice

The Marina bay circuit in Singapore was the only track where Redbull failed to win at last year, and their struggles here look to be continuing into this season as well.

With that in mind, this could be a crucial weekend for the drivers championship, as it gives Lando Norris a chance to further reduce the gap to Max Verstappen at the top of the standings.

Things seem to be going from bad to worst for the defending championships. After losing the constructors lead last week in Baku, there’s now a very real chance that they could be demoted to third by Ferrari, who look to have a very solid car this weekend after topping FP1.

Both Redbulls seemed to be struggling with balance issues, with Sergio Perez reporting on the radio that the car was “all over the place”, while Verstappen could only manage 15th in FP2.

There sister team on the other hand, VCARB, seem to have a very solid car this weekend, particularly through the slow corners. As both drivers finished in the top 10 during both sessions.

It was a mixed day for new championship leaders McLaren. With Oscar Piastry sat in the garage during FP1 due to a wheel which had became stuck on the car during a practice pit stop.

On the other side of the Garage, Lando Norris had two decent sessions, finishing second in FP1 and first in FP2, with Charles Leclerc less than a tenth behind him in both sessions, as Ferrari also look quick this weekend.

There was an interesting moment during FP2 when Franco Colapinto came into the wrong pit box. This was just before Mercedes driver George Russel hit the wall at turn 8, bringing to an end what was a disappointing start to the weekend for the Brackley based team, with neither driver finishing in the top 10 during FP1.

The teams now have one practice session left before they go into qualifying tomorrow, with no clear favourite for pole as McLaren and Ferrari seem pretty evenly matched so far, while their rivals Redbull and Mercedes continue to struggle.
