Lawrence Stroll is reportedly paying Newey upwards of £20million a year according to sky sports, but what makes him so special?

The 65-year-old certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to designing Formula one cars, having worked at McLaren, Williams and most recently Redbull in a career that spans 38 years so far.

In that time Newey has gone on to design some of the best Formula one cars ever to have raced, such as the 1993 Williams FW15C or last years RB19, earning him the title of F1’s best designer.

Since 1992 his cars have won a total of 13 drivers and 12 constructors titles with the most recent example being last years tile winning Redbull which won 21/22 races.

The signing of such a high profile designer highlights Aston Martins title winning ambitions, with owner Lawrence Stroll investing £200m into a new state of the art factory, as well as signing key staff from other teams such as former Ferrari designer Enrico Cardile and two time drivers champion Fernando Alonso.

Newey will officially start work at Aston Martin on the March 1 2025, with the focus being on the new regulations for 2026. With Honda coming in to supply the engines for the team in 2026 as well as Newey’s Expertise, Aston Martin could very well be F1’s dominant team in a few years time.

What Newey Said

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team,” said Newey.

“I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence [Stroll] brings to everything he is involved with.

“If I had to describe Lawrence in one sentence, I think he has total belief, he has a direction and he’s happy to put all his chips on black, and that’s what he’s doing here.”

What the Team Said

“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team,” said Lawrence Stroll.

“It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula 1 team capable of fighting for world championships. As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen.”
