As well as the on track action there was plenty off track as well, as the FIA had unveiled the new F3 car for next season.

Race Report

The race would get underway with Tramnitz fending off Sebastian Montoya as they rounded turn 1. Further behind, Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli was on the move, making up 3 places on the opening lap to move himself into 13th.

The safety car was required on lap 2 after Tommy Smith clipped the rear of his teammate Noel Leon, sending him into the path off Nikita Bedrin which took both cars out of the race.

Racing resumed on lap 6 and Fornaroli was on a charge once again, moving up to P9 and into the points by lap 10. His teammate Santiago Ramos was also flying as he challenged Montoya for second, making the move on lap 9.

He wouldn’t stay there for very long however as Montoya came back at him a few laps later.

The safety car was required once again on lap 13 after an incident between Max Esterson and Piotr Wisnicki at turn one, with the race being resumed on lap 17, the last lap, for a one lap shootout to decide the winner.

Tramnitz maintained the lead from Montoya and Ramos as Alex Dunne rounded Beganovic for 4th. Further behind the title contenders were still going at it in the lower reaches of the points, as Luke Browning got himself up into P8 ahead of Fornaroli in 9th and Mini the last point scorer in 10th.

A great drive from Tramnitz saw him cross the line in P1 to take his first win in F3, with Montoya in second and Ramos 3rd.

Championship Outlook

Browning’s drive to P8 ahead of his rivals means that he closes in on Fornaroli at the top of the championship with 128 points to his name, just 5 away from Fornaroli on 133 points with Mini in second with 130.

Arvid Lindblad is also still in with a shot at the title, albeit 20 points down on his rivals meaning he would need to win from 18th on the grid to win the title which seems rather unlikely.

With the top 3 in the championship separated by just 5 points it’s sets up what will be a thrilling end to the season in tomorrow’s feature race.

1 – L. Fornaroli – 133pts

2 – G. Mini – 130 pts

3 – L. Browning – 128pts
