Pole-sitter Bino Beganovic had a race to forget as he came home 3rd after starting P1

Race Report

Beganovic had a good launch, the Ferrari junior covering off Bedrin as they rounded turn one however Bedrin came right back at the race leader, hanging around the outside of turn 2 which gave him the inside line for turn 3, allowing him to take the race lead.

Further back and Mari Boya had gone wide, re-joining into the path of Zagazeta who made contact with the Campos which gave him suspension damage, forcing him to retire on lap one with the virtual safety car coming out shortly after.

Racing would resume a few laps later with Beganovic right behind Bedrin as they started lap 6. The other AIX car of Inthraphuvasak seamed to be struggling as well, with the Rodin motorsports car of Callum Voisin right behind him as they approached turn 2. Voisin made a lunge down the inside however there wasn’t really any room as he made contact with the left rear tyre of Inthraphuvasak, both drivers managing to continue.

Lap 10 and Beganovic was right on the gearbox of race leader Bedrin once again, the Swedish driver selling the dummy as they approached turn 2, forcing Bedrin to go to the outside which left a gap for Beganovic to take the race lead. Unfortunately for him, he caught the curb on the inside off the track which gave him a handful of oversteer which sent him wide, allowing Inthraphuvasak to slot into 2nd.

Behind them, Voisin had now been passed by Tramnitz and Mansell which dropped him down to 6th while Luke Browning had made his way back into the points and up to P8 after having his qualifying lap deleted yesterday.

Out in front, Nikia Bedrin after taking the lead on lap one crossed the line to win for the first time in Formula 3, taking AIX ‘s first win and first podium as they become the 10th team to finish on the podium this season meaning that all 10 teams have been on the podium this year!

It was also a first podium for Inthraphuvasak, who came into this round last in the standings but now holds the title of being the first driver from Thailand to finish on a Formula 3 podium in the modern era!

Championship Outlook

With his P3 Beganovic moves himself up to 5th in the drivers standings while Luke Browning’s comeback drive means that he moves himself up to 2nd in the standings behind Gabriele Mini who still leads the standings despite not scoring any points today.

As for the team standings Prema continue to dominate with 320 points compared to ART in second who have just 180, while Browning’s P8 moves Hitech up to 4th
