Norris bagged the second pole of his career today, beating Verstappen by the slimmest of margins

Quali Report
It was a tough session for Williams, with even Albon struggling to find pace in his car as he qualified 19th, albeit 4 tenths ahead of teammate Sargeant in 20th. The big shock however was VCARB, as neither of their drivers managed to progress to the second part of qualifying with Tsunoda just ahead of Riccardo in 16th and 17th respectively. They would be joined by Kevin Magnussen, who got knocked out by his teammate Hulkenberg who managed to progress through to Q2.

Unfortunately for Hulkenberg he couldn’t progress any further as he could only managed 13th, along with the Kick Sauber pair of Bottas and Zhou as well as Lance stroll and his teammate Fernando Alonso, a two-time winner at this circuit, however he just missed out on a spot in Q3 on home soil.
After the first runs in Q3 it looked like Verstappen had the edge over the rest of the field, as he sat P1 with Norris a tenth behind.

However, with the seconds ticking away Norris put together the perfect lap to go fastest by just 2 hundredths of a second ahead of Verstappen. Behind them on the second row will be the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russel as Mercedes look like they’re finally getting on top of this generation of car.
Perhaps even more surprising was the fact that both Alpines managed to reach Q3 despite their nightmare start to the season, along with the Redbull of Sergio Perez, who finally made Q3 again after failing to do so for the past 3 races, however he’ll drop 3 places on tomorrows grid following his penalty in Canada.

Next up-This sets up what will almost certainly be an exciting race tomorrow, with many drivers out of position and a potential fight for victory between Norris Verstappen and maybe even the 2 Mercedes.
