The Coldest Ever F1 Race

Anticipation and excitement for the Las Vegas grand prix has quickly turned into disappointment and concern for the race and its future on the F1 calendar. Most fans are probably now aware of the damage the grand prix has already caused for las Vegas locals with roads being closed famous landmarks being covered up with grandstands which will probably be empty, as the organizers have failed to sell all of the seats, with some ticket prices plummeting by as much as 80%.

However, recently another issue has come to light regarding the race itself. Early weather reports for the race suggest that temperatures could fall as low as 4 degrees Celsius. For reference, the coldest temperature ever recorded at an f1 race was 5 degrees Celsius at the Canadian grand prix way back in 1978. The extremely cold temperatures as well as the long straight on the circuit will lead to cold tires and therefore low grip will dull what will most likely be a boring race dominate by max Verstappen, as has been the case for most of this years races.

Even the fancy Vegas themed curbs wont be able to make the race seem any more appealing as fans have sited other issues such as the fact that the pit lane exit leading drivers immediately into the left hander of turn one, or the blind chicane midway through the lap. However the las Vegas grand prix isn’t the only famous street race happening next weekend as the prestigious Macau grand prix makes its long awaited return after being canceled multiple times s a result of covid-19.

What is The Macau Grand Prix?

The FIA Formula 3 Macau grand prix is a one off, non championship event around the streets of Macau where the best up and coming junior drivers battle it out to be crowned winner of the Macau grand prix. Basically, its a 15 lap, all or nothing race through the twisty narrow streets of Macau using formula 3 cars with drivers from formula 4, formula regional, formula 3, formula 2 and even formula e competing to be crowned winner. Previous winners include Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard, all wining it on their way to f1 wit the most recent winner being f2 race winner Richard Verschoor, with Williams driver Logan sergeant finishing 3rd back in 2019

So while the formula one race next weekend may turn out to be an anti climactic race won by max Verstappen, as has been the norm recently, there is still plenty of motorsport action to be seen elsewhere. As always I will provide updates on these races as well as other single seater news throughout the week.
